New Medic 37 Arrives

Saturday, April 20, 2013  Westminster Fire Company would like to thank its members who served on the new medic committee for their efforts in putting together the new unit. Medic 37 is a 2012 Ford 4x4 PL Custom Type 1 medic unit. Some of its features included a sliding side entry door, a new Ferno stretcher, a Whelen Pioneer scene flood light, and a full length squad bench allowing the unit to transport 2 patients on back boards. Medic 37 is now in the station having a few last minute modifications but will soon be on the streets of Westminster allowing crews to more effectively and efficiently provide EMS care to the community.

     



 

House on PA Avenue

Friday, April 19, 2013  At 12:40, Box Alarm 03-31 was sounded for an apartment fire with a reported person trapped. Units from Companies 3, 9, 6, 10, and 2 responded. Engine 31 arrived on the scene with fire showing from the second floor, and passed command to Chief 3 who was arriving behind them. Tower 3, Engine 33, Duty 3, and Medic 39 all arrived within 3 minutes of dispatch. Engine 31 and Engine 33 advanced hand lines to the second floor, while Tower 3's crew searched. The fire was quickly extinguished in the room of origin, and the search for the victim came up negative. Units from Company 3 operated for a little over 2 hours before returning to service. 

     



 

Box 2-9

Wednesday, April 17, 2013   Box alarm 2-9 was dispatched for smoke coming from a house on Winterberry Lane. Duty 3 arrived with smoke showing from a 2 story house. Engine 33 arrived as second due engine and assisted in fire attack. Units were met with fire in the basement which had burnt through the floor and was extending into the living room area. 

     



 

Box 13-5

Sunday, April 14, 2013  Engine 31 and Tower 3 headed to Gamber today around 0930 hours for a reported house fire. Chief 13 and Medic 139 arrived reporting fire showing and requested a tanker task force and the RID. The tower and engine arrived and assisted in extinguishment and overhaul. Units were in service within 2 hours.

Woods Fire

Wednesday, April 10, 2013   Engine 31 was alerted for a woods fire in the 500 block of Ridge Road. Lt 3-4 checked up in the area and dispatch advised it was approximately 1/2-1 acre of woods on fire. Lt 3-4 requested a brush truck and tanker to assist. Engine 31, Engine 33, Brush 35, and Utility 3 responded. Lt 3-2 arrived and set up the command and requested a brush task force. Units were on scene for a little over an hour. Westminster would like to thank ET44 for covering company 3 during the fire. 

     



 

Auto Fire

Tuesday, April 9, 2013   Engine 31 responded to Winters Mill High School for an auto fire. Engine 31 arrived to find the engine compartment of the vehicle involved and extinguished without incident. 

     



 

Roll Over on Green Street

Sunday, April 7, 2013  In the early hours of 4-6-13, units from Westminster and Reese were dispatched for a vehicle collision with entrapment in the 100 Block of Green Street. Engine 31 arrived finding 2 vehicles with one on its side. All patients had self extricated prior to fire departments arrival. Medic 38 and Medic 37 transported 4 patients to a local hospital for evaluation.

Thursday, April 4, 2013   Around 0500 hours Engine 31 and Medic 38 responded for a vehicle collision in the area of Cranberry Road and Rt 140. Units arrived to find a pick up truck that had rear ended a tractor trailer. Units evaluated and transported one patient. 

   


 

Another Fire in Gamber

Saturday, March 23, 2013  In the early morning hours on 3-23-13, Carroll Communications dispatched a box in Gamber for a house fire. Chief 13 arrived with a house well involved requesting additional units to the scene. Due to a well developed fire and partial collapse, units extinguished the fire from the exterior.

Mobile Home Fire

Wednesday, March 13, 2013  Around 0315 hours, Box alarm 6-9 was alerted for a possible house fire in the 3500 Blk of Littlestown Pike. Engine 33 went enroute and was advised of a possible mobile home on fire with extension into the house. Engine 33 arrived and stretched a line reporting fire showing from a trailer type mobile home with minor extension into the dwelling. Units were on scene for an extended period for overhaul.
