Member Collin Snyder Graduates from Carroll County Sheriff’s Academy

Our 2023 Fireman of the Year, Collin Snyder graduated from the Class 7 of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Academy this week. Collin had been working in the Detention Center, then attending the academy and volunteering as a firefighter for us all at the same time. Citizens Fire Academy

MISSION: To provide members of the community a basic look into the Westminster Fire Department and to increase awareness and understanding of emergency services.

PURPOSE: To provide basic training to community members to give them a look into the department’s capabilities and limitations.

METHODS: Includes classroom lectures and hands-on training.

Instructor Expectations: Instructors will expect students to use good judgment to ensure that they project a professional image. Attendees will have cell phones on vibrate, be ready to learn, and participate in hands-on activities when they feel comfortable.

Course Objectives:

1. To guide community members through basic training sessions and testing.

2. To provide a basic knowledge of field operations.

3. Students will complete the following:

  • Tour of the station
  • Introduction to the Westminster Fire Department 
  • CPR/AED/First Aid
  • Stop the Bleed
  • Personal Protective Equipment and SCBA
  • Fire Extinguisher Training
  • Hose line operations
  • Ladders
